ANTIQUE VINTAGE JAPANESE SATSUMA ORIENTAL POTTERY JAR VASE WITH LID & FOO DOGS. Antique vintage 1920-s Japanese Satsuma earthenware jar/vase with lid. Painting – traditional Japanese scenes. One Japanese lion/foo dog seats on the lid, two other figurines of lion dogs make side handles. Figures of lion dogs (komainu in Japanese) are detailed, with their small tongs out. Japanese lion dogs are actually lions, they called in Japan. Jar seats on three legs with raised red masks. Japanese mark on the base and inside on the lid. Ware was popular in Meiji period (1868 – 1912), most items were made for Western market. Height 45cm, width 30cm.
