Antique Imari Japanese Porcelain. Jar with Lid and Brilliant Color. Floral Decoration Highlighted in Gold. Antique Imari Porcelain Jar with original lid. The decoration includes flowers and swirling leaves, fans of petals, all highlighted in gold. A very lovely example and a fine collectible. This jar stands 7 tall including the lid. The jar is 5 1/4 at the widest diameter. The lid is 3/4″ high, with the lid the overall height is 7″. This fine piece is marked in 3 places with 4 marks. See photographs: there are marks on the base, inside the jar on the bottom and 2 marks inside the lid. CONDITION: Overall outstanding with no chips, cracks or restorations. PLEASE SEE LAST PHOTOGRAPH: The top has small marks (not chips) from the maker and they are fully glazed over. Imari ware (Japanese: Hepburn: Imari-yaki) is a type of Arita ware (Arita-yaki) traditionally made in the town of Arita, in the former Hizen Province, northwestern Kysh. They were exported to Europe extensively from the port of Imari, Saga, between the second half of the 17th century and the first half of the 18th century. The name therefore derives from the port of export. Imari ware has been continuously produced up through the present day. History courtesy of Wikipedia.
