Kutani Ware Urn Temple Jar Japanese Meiji 11 Okumura Embossed Gold Gilt + Lid
Kutani Ware Urn Temple Jar Japanese Meiji. 11 Okumura Embossed Gold Gilt + Lid. The owners of the jar stated that their Great Grandfather was a Merchant Marine and bought this (and three more pieces that are listed in our other auctions) in Japan around 1915. The owner had a reputable person from an Asian Arts Association view this (and the other pieces in our other listings). He stated that the Japanese writing on the bottom reads: Okumura Ga Kutani Sei Kaga Kuni = painted by Okumura Made in Kutani Kaga province. Nothing definitive was found regarding this artist. Several areas on this vase are embossed such as the trees, parts of the pictures and some of the decorations, etc. There are inlays in each of the fans and flowers that look like mother-of-pearl and two inlays in the fans on the lid that appears to possibly be jade; however, I do not know for sure what the material is. The intricate details on this jar are exemplary! 4 ½ across the top opening. 8 ½ across the widest point (lion tail to lion tail). This jar is in very good condition (with the exception of the lid). The jar itself has no cracks, chips or breaks. It does have some hot spots. These appear to have happened during the making of this jar. There are some red paint marks that are undetermined if they were done during the manufacturing process, as well. The lid has been broke and reglued. It has a piece missing on each end of the crack. The pictures show the damage; however, if you would like additional pictures, please feel free to message us. There are some glares from the lighting on this jar, so please ask and I will answer to the best of my ability. Be sure to view our pictures for best visual details. Please message us for more details. This jar will be double boxed and professionally packaged. We fully insure the items we sell! Spot on the gold band appears to be a glaze pop. It’s raised up, not a pit as. It appears on the picture.
