Superb Meiji Japanese Cloisonne Covered Jar Vase Butterflies Floral-Silver Wire. Very fine large, late 19th century antique work of art. Beautifully designed with two butterflies in flight among wonderfully shaded Chrysanthemums all crafted in the finest silver wire. Very interesting, the wires appear in varying depths within the enamel of the piece. Look at butterflies versus the flowers as an example. These vases exhibit very high standard of fine Japanese hand craftsmanship. Natural, earthtones shaded colors on florals on a high gloss subdued emerald/turqoise? Top is slightly domed with a hand cut reticulated flower finial with original lotus petal collar. Awesome in its own right! Base is polished copper with nice patina. Detailed colorful geometric borders on all edges puts a nice finish touch. This antique covered jar is in superb original condition. No damages, repairs, cracks or dents. Very little pitting, evidence of the extreme skill of the artisans during the many (kiln) firings required to complete this masterpiece. Globe form, on copper rather than brass base. Large size for covered jar at approximately 6 1/2″ tall and 5 3/4″ wide. Please see photos as an integral part of this description. Sometimes the camera catches what I don’t. Please ask any questions. From my personal collection, this wonderful covered jar would be an excellent addition to ANY cloisonne collection. ALL reasonable offers considered.
